Where Do Saved Audio Messages Go On iPhone?

If you are a long-time apple (particularly iPhone) user, you may have noticed that it is no longer possible to retrieve your audio messages from your voice memo’s app.

Messages would also be automatically and indefinitely stored in the thread of the conversation that you were having, however, you may have noticed that they disappear quickly.

This is because Apple has changed this in recent updates and phones.

When you receive a message on your iMessage app, the following will now take place.

Messages will still be stored in your messenger app within the thread of your conversation.

They will not be stored in any other folder.

In addition, they can not be found inside your device’s file browser either.

The default setting for audio messages is that they will now be saved for 2 minutes after which they will disappear.

There are steps that you can take to retrieve your audio messages however or ensure that they remain in your conversation thread for a longer period of time or indefinitely.

How To Save iPhone Audio Messages

1) Press to keep the message

The first method of saving your messages in the iMessage app is to press the keep button.

Therefore after an audio message has been received you can simply press the keep button in blue as per the image.

This will keep the current audio message in the conversation thread indefinitely, until such time as you delete it, delete the message thread, or remove the contact from your phone.

2) Tap and Hold Audio Message

If you want to save the audio file on your iPhone so that it is stored in one of your files then follow these steps.

After receiving the audio file, press and hold the audio file icon until it is slightly raised.

3) Access File Icon

You can then click on the file’s icon (blue file second from the top row) to access the location where you want to save the file in.

4) Paste into the File

Once the file section is open, you must then press and hold any blank space.

After pressing and holding you will then see 4 tabs appear.

You then have the option of pasting, creating a new folder, scanning documents, and getting info.

In this case, you want to click on the paste icon in order to save the file

5) Access audio message in your files section

Once you press save you will be able to access your saved folder in the below location or wherever you decided to save your file.

The file will remain on your phone until you remove it.

Always remember to back up your files on iCloud in case you need to update your software or in the event that something happens to your phone.

6) Settings

Next, you want to ensure that any audio files that are received from a contact on iMessages are stored on your device for a longer period and do not automatically disappear after 2 minutes.

In order to do this, you must click the settings icon and then go to messages.

7) Audio Messages ——->>> Expire After 2 minutes

Once you get to the messages section in the settings, scroll down to the section that says Audio Messages.

You will notice that under audio messages there is an expire tab and next to the expire text, you will notice that there is a section that says after 2 minutes.

Press the arrow next to the text “After 2 minutes”

8) Expire After 1 Year

Once you get to the expire section you will notice that you have the option of allowing your messages to expire after 1 year.

9) Never Expire

In the version of Imessages below, you have the option of allowing your messages to never expire.

 

How do I retrieve deleted voice messages on my iPhone?

Voicemail is a service provided by your cellular network provider.

I suggest you check in with them if they offer this capability as each provider is different.

keep in mind that when we refer to voice mails, this relates to messages that are being left on your phone by people who contact you via your mobile network provider.

Therefore it may be best to check with your mobile service provider.

If that does not work, you can try the following

  • Click on settings
  • Then click on the phone
  • Click on voicemail

Scroll down until you see the “Deleted Messages” option.

Tap that and find the deleted voicemails.

Select the voicemail(s) you want to recover, and then, tap on the “Undelete” button to retrieve the messages.

Where are WhatsApp voice messages stored on iPhones?

Even though the Whats app saves video and photos taken using your iPhone, directly onto your phone, the same can not be said for whats app audio files and voice notes.

Whatsapp does not save voice messages on your iPhone.

You can however listen to your Whats app voice notes from the chat conversation on the Whats app.

Andriod users can access whats app voice messages from internal storage.

  5. Select the “Save to Files” option from the iOS share sheet.
  6. Tap “On My iPhone” and select a folder to save WhatsApp audio files to your iPhone’s local storage. You can also choose iCloud Drive if you want
  7. Optional: To rename the voice note, tap the file name next to the audio icon and enter a name.
  8. Tap “Save” at the top-right to save the voice note to the Files app

Audio messages can also be saved on your SD card in external storage
